Proposed Feni College Jam-e-Mosque
Feni College, Feni | 2026
Project Type: Mosque
Architectural Design: Shahriar Mahmud
Structural Design:
Area: 6000 sqft
The existing mosque at Feni College had gradually become a Jam-e-Mosque, while its spatial capacity had not evolved with the growing prayer requirements. The proposal seeks to maximise the use of the existing site while creating a dignified and light-filled place of worship.
Located beside the iconic colonial-era Feni College building, the design establishes a dialogue with its architectural character. The colonial arch is reimagined through an Islamic architectural vocabulary, transforming a familiar local language into a monumental expression appropriate to the mosque.
The four-storey mosque accommodates male prayer spaces on every floor, with a dedicated female prayer space on the first floor, alongside ablution and toilet facilities. A traditional pukur ghat is incorporated into the proposal as both a functional ablution space and a meaningful connection to the site’s local landscape and memory.
An external main staircase forms a prominent architectural element, while a restrained, contemporary “fat-less” minimal minaret acts as a vertical counterpoint—creating a composition between monumentality, simplicity and light.
